Hallo Ihr Lieben, einen schönen guten Morgen, ich will euch noch mal Lust auf England machen... Denn mein geheimes Mastermind-Ziel ist es, dass ihr alle mal nach England geht und seht, wie schön es dort ist! Traumhaft! Absolut wert, einen Sommer dort zu verbringen - und bevor ihr fragt... ja, es regnet manchmal dort. Aber - aber... ich habe viele trockene und heiße Sommer dort erlebt und das schlechte Wetter zieht oft auch schnell weiter. Man hat nicht nur Regen Regen Regen, wie viele sagen. Das ist ein falsches Vorurteil!
Hey you guys, its Simea again with more travel tipps about southern England. I had some days to travel there and I loved it so much... So I wanna make you all go and see it. Yep, I do. My goal is to make everyone wanna go there a.s.a.p. - because it really is beautiful. And before you ask: yes, it sometimes rains over there. But... but... not THAT much. I have seen some really hot and dry summers over there. Very often the rain doesnt stay there for very long, the weather changes a lot, but it can be sunny and beautiful as well!
Dartmoor
Ich bin mit dem Auto vom unteren Zipfel in Cornwall durch Bodmin Moor und Dartmooer gefahren. Eigentlich wollte ich dort einen Tag laufen und chillen, aber es hat nur geregnet und hatte eine gespenstige Sherlock-Hund-von-Baskerville-Stimmung, so habe ich es mir anders überlegt. Die Leute dort haben auch gesagt, dass es an 300 Tagen im Jahr regnet (das ist ja schon viel, gell...) Aber... dafür ist alles herrlich grün und sehr hübsch. Wenn einem der Regen nichts ausmacht, ist es sicher ganz nett! Für mich war es zu nass, so bin ich nur kurz angehalten und dann weitergefahren!
I drove with the car from Cornwall through some Moores into Devon. I wish I could show you some pictures about Dartmoor, because it really is beautiful. But it was raining so heavily that I did not stop once. Really, it was depressing, very "hound of baskerville indeed", but... beautiful. People told me that it rains 300 days a year in Dartmoor, I dont know if thats true, but if yes, thats not my kind of place.
So, go there, it is definitly worth it, but it will probably be raining:D
Exeter
Exeter ist eine wunderschöne historische Stadt, die ich dann angefahren hatte, weil ich noch Zeit hatte. War eine sehr gute Entscheidung. Dort war das Wetter besser und die alten, krummen Straßen, die pittoresken alten Fachwerkhäuser, alles sehr charmant. Die Kathedrale ist der Wahnsinn. Wirklich sehr sehr ehrfurchtserregend und schön. Und - man kann ganz toll shoppen in Exeter, es hat viele viele tolle Läden, man kann shoppen bis zum Umfallen. Ich werd da sicher noch mal hingehen, aber mit mehr Zeit zur Verfügung.
What I did then, because I had some time, was going into Exter, which was brilliant. Really cute streets, old houses, very stylish, the Cathedral is AWESOME and there are lots and lots of shops, you can shop until you drop - really. I am definitly going back there again with more time on my hands!

Countryside
Und dann ist da das ganze Gebiet Devon/Dorset, teilweise Hampshire, das ich abgefahren habe - das ganze sehr ländliche Gebiet. Wunderschön, ich sags euch! Total schön - wäre sehr gerne (auch hier...) noch viel länger geblieben. Ich habe eine Nacht in Beaminister verbracht und bin viel durch die ganzen kleinen Ortschaften mit den süßen reetgedeckten Häusern und witzigen Ortschaften etc. Die zerklüftete Küstenlandschaft (jurassic coastline) aus dem Jurazeitalter. Sehr sehr charmant.
Then theres the countryside. I was listentenig to "Country house" from Blur, which was funny, really. And drove all through Devon, Dorset and Hampshire. Devon and Dorset - definitly worth a visit. Great. Wanted to stay there so badly. (I am afraid, I'll have to say that very often, but I am definitly going back there and check it out more!) The jurassic coastline was just beautiful and I fell for the pubs and the thatched roofs. So very very charming. I did not have much time, spent the night in Beaminster, but the drive was very quiet, lots to see and it felt very relaxed and charming over there.
Ein weiterer genialer Platz, ist der Nationalpark, der New Forrest mit Wildpferden und Heidekraut, sehr sehr ruhig und schön. Ich hab einen Tag da auf ner Decke verbracht, keine Menschenseele gesehen und entspannt!!!! Toll eben auch für Kinder mit den Wildpferden, überall kann man picknicken - total schön. Und ganz nah, 10 Minuten oder so, von Bournemouth.
Another favorite spot of mine is the New Forrest, a National Park close to Bournemouth with wild horses and heather, very quiet, very relaxed as well. I spent a day on a blanket there, did not see a single person... Very cool for kids as well, because of the horses, lots of places, where you can picnic - a cool experience.
Bournemouth/ Brighton
Wir als Familie waren schon zwei Sommer in Bournemouth und deswegen habe ich auch dort einen Stopp machen wollen, man hat einfach so viele Erinnerungen. Und viele von euch haben dort vielleicht auch als Schüler Sprachurlaub gemacht, gell? Die Küste war total schön, der Sandstrand, ewig lang, der süße Pier.... Aber ich war enttäuscht über die Innenstadt. Fand die mega schmutzig und voll und unordentlich und unattraktiv. Brighton hat mir da besser gefallen. Dort hat es zwar Steinstrand, aber es ist noch ruhiger und der Pier mit all den Lichtern und so ist sensationell!!! Schön sind auch die Strandhütten in bunten Farben, man kann abends toll am Strand grillen - das machen auch viele. Und in Brighton steht die Sonne so günstig zum Strand, dass man echt bis viertel nach neun Sonne hatte. Das war supergemütlich. Ich will da unbedingt noch mal mit meiner Familie hin.
As a family we spent two summers in Bournemouth and I am sure a lot of you did as well... for it is the biggest seaside town for language students. I have always loved the beach huts and the endless sandy beaches but was really dissapointed about the arcardes and inner city. It was really dirty, really noisy and not charming at all. The beach was dreamy, really, the pier is so cute, but my next stop, Brighton, was far more attractive. The beaches over there are pebbles beaches, but it is quieter, the pier is great in the night with all the attractions and lights and the city seemed nicer. The park is great and- you'll guess it- I wanna go there again with my family.
Portsmouth
Nicht empfehlen kann ich Portsmouth. Hat mir gar nicht gefallen.
What I cannot reccomend was Portsmouth. Did not like it at all!
Durch den kleinen Ort mit Burg, Arundel, bin ich nur kurz durchgefahren, aber der war cool - die Burg hatte eine tolle Wirkung und es gibt dort so Mittelalter-Festivals mit Tuniren und so. Da möcht ich mal noch mal hin (Überraschung!!!).
I just drove through and dont have any pictures, but Arundel looked really really great. The old castle was fasczinating. They have medieval tornaments there and it all looked so tiny and old and cute. I wanna go there again.
Rhye
Ich hatte leider keine Zeit mehr, noch weiter östlich zu reisen - habe allgemein schon viel Zeit im Auto verbracht, leider konnte ich nicht nach Rhye, einer uralten Stadt mit Pflaster-Straßen und genialem alten Friedhof, wirklich total verzaubert. Dort lohnt sich ein Aufenthalt wirklich. Gibt bestimmt auch geniale Unterkünfte dort!
I had no time to travel further east (I already spent a lot of my time driving), because one of my favorite places in the world is the tiny town Rhye and its cementry. It is definitly worth a visit or overnight stay! I am quite sure there are some great places to stay!
Es ist natürlich genial, wie schnell man in London ist, von uns aus, aber, wenn man länger geht und als Familie und sich mit dem Gepäck nicht so einschränken will und Zeit hat, kann ich die Fahrt von Calais nach Dover einfach nur empfehlen. Auf der Fähre zu sein, die Möwen schreien zu hören und dabei zu zusehen, wie sich die Kreidefelsen aus dem Nebel lösen und man England immer näher kommen sieht, ist eine wahnsinnig berührende Erfahrung! Man braucht auch ein Auto dort, finde ich, weil es einfach so viel zu sehen gibt. Geschichte überall und überhaupt nicht langweilig, sondern sehr spannend und berührend. Tolle Gärten, Burgen, Schlösser, keltische Plätze... Echt der Hammer.
Man kann genial shoppen. Soviele nette kleine Läden, soviele coole große Ketten, die es bei uns nicht gibt. Tolle Kinderkleider. Antiquitäten und Retro Sachen (grad in Brighton)... Nicht billig (nichts ist wirklich billig dort - es ist etwas teurer als Frankreich oder Italien). Aber meiner Meinung nach ist das egal, denn England ist einfach wunderschön und das Geld wert.
Und die englische Küste ist so unterschiedlich und spannend und spektakulär, sowas bekommt man einfach nicht oft zu sehen. Deswegen: bucht euch ein nettes cottage oder plant eine Reise in süßen B&Bs oder mit airbnb und entdeckt die Kultur, die geniale Landschaft und die charmanten Menschen von Großbritanien! (Niemand gibt mit Geld dafür, dass ich das schreibe! Es ist meine ehrlich Meinung!)
I love how fast you can be there by airplane, but the ferry from Calais to Dover is just an experiment. Seeing the white cliffs coming nearer and nearer is fascinating. So if you think about spending a holiday in Great Britain, think about the possibility to drive with your own car and discovering England from the distance. Another cool thing about going by car is the flexibility, because there is just so much to see and discover. Everythings old and beautiful. Shopping is cool as well - I hated not to be able to bring an extra suitcase with me for cute clothes and charming decor etc. There's so much to find there! Antiques, cool retro stuff and fancy clothes! Great kids clothes as well.
But... I am gonna be honest with you - it is expensive. Everything is more expensive than in Germany (but thats normal, right). But compared to Italy or France, its still a little more expensive.
But it is - in my opinion - soooo worth it! Because Great Britain still rocks! (Nobody is giving me money to write that, I am really confirmed that GB is a great place to be!)
And the English seaside is one of the most beautiful and most spectacular coast I have ever seen.
So, book your cute little cottage or plan a tour with b&b or airbnb and take in the history, charm and scenery of that old country there in the sea!
