Headboard Leather

Geschmack ändert sich, bei euch auch? Für Julia jedenfalls war der Ikea Bettrahmen einfach nicht mehr das Richtige (war auch schon etwas kaputt ;) ) und dewegen wurde er einfach mal abgebaut. In der Hoffnung, eine schöne Alternative zu finden. Leider waren ihre Favoriten aus Leder ein paar hundert Euro teuer. Also baut man selbst ein Kopfteil für das Bett!

Taste always changes, right? For Julia the old Ikea bed wasn't right anymore (as it was damaged as well ;) ) and therefore she just removed it in order to come up with a nice alternative. Unfortunately all her favourites with leather were just too expensive. So now it was time to build a headboard herself!

Material:

MDF-Platte in der Größe des Kopfteils (hier 1,80x0,7m) mit 10mm Stärke

Schaumstoff in der gleichen Größe (ca. 3-4cm dick, bekommt man im Baumarkt)

Füllwatte je 10 cm an jeder Seite länger als die Platte (z.B. bei Karstadt)

Kunstleder je 10 cm an jeder Seite länger als die Platte + etwas für die Latten

Bau-Tacker

2 Holzlatten 0,1x1,40m (je nach dem wie hoch das Kopfteil am Ende sein soll)

Akku-Schrauber und Schrauben

Supplies:

MDF the size of the final headboard (here it is 1,80x0,7m x 10mm) 

Foam the same size (3-4cm thick, available in hardware stores)

batting about 10cm wider on each side, available in stores with fabric (like Karstadt)

faux leather about 10cm wider on each side

staple gun

2 wooden slats 0,1x1,40m (depending on the final height of the headboard)

power drill and some screws

1. Füllwatte, Schaumstoff und Platte aufeinanderlegen, sodass die Holzplatte oben aufliegt

1. place batting, foam and wood on each other so that the wood is on top

2. an jeder Seite die Watte umschlagen und festtackern 

2. fold the batting around the edges and begin stapling

3. genau das gleiche wird nun mit dem Kunstleder gemacht

3. repeat step 2 with the faux leather

4. aus dem Rest Leder ein kleines Stück ausschneiden und um ein Ende der Holzlatte tackern (damit  am Ende kein Holz sichtbar ist)

4. cut a small piece of leather from the leftovers and staple it around one end of the wooden slats (so that in the end no wood is showing)

5. schliesslich noch die Latten etwa 30cm nach innen versetzt an die Platte hinten schrauben und fertig ist ein geniales Kopfteil! Es kann hinter das Bett geklemmt werden oder noch an die Wand geschraubt werden, falls es nicht von alleine steht.

5. now screw the lats to the back of the wood about 30cm from the edges: you got your headboard ready! If it doesn't stay on its own, screw it to the wall at the back of your bed.
